What a buyer purchases is metal content — unchanged by physical damage.

Purity testing
How broken gold is tested
The same professional testing as any other piece — condition and shape make no difference to the result.
A trained tester verifies purity using professional testing equipment, revealing the fineness — 24K, 22K, 18K, 14K, or lower. It works on any shape or condition of gold, and a broken piece tests the same as an intact one.
